Story Behind the Art
This piece was born from my love of winter magic, not the commercial kind, but the ancient, earthy feeling that settles in during the days surrounding the winter solstice. I wanted to create a stag that carried that deeper kind of wonder. Not Santa’s reindeer… but a creature of Yule.
In this painting, the stag stands tall and calm, crowned with antlers filled with symbols of the season: holly for protection, candles for light returning, and hints of red and green woven through darker, mysterious tones.
For me, the Yule Stag represents the heart of the solstice. The longest night, the turning of the sun, the reminder that nature cycles through darkness and light with effortless grace. This piece is a way of honoring that moment when the world feels still, when the days begin to stretch again, and when the magic of winter feels closest to the surface.
It’s a celebration of nature’s rhythm, of quiet rituals, and of the slow, glowing magic that happens just before Christmas, where the mystery lives.
